Rich as ever you are correct. I take any opportunity to drive this and wlll on Friday when we do our big shop. I did used to do record shop at record fairs with my mate Alan, but in a Mark 2 Golf, the V70 would be perfect.

Hello Nicholas, I do rather enjoy driving the old thing and so far, so good, I replaced the air filter yesterday and the smells seems to be fairly neutral. Apart from being truly colossal I do rather enjoy punting it about. Warning light for a bulb, but it is just a rusty contact. Seems to enjoy the frost at the moment. THanks for reading.

love the piece on the volvo james. as you may remember i bought my mums beemer soft top after she was disqualified due to an NHS cock up with her eyes. Its 24 yrs old and those 6 cylinders are so smooth. the folding roof still works a treat too. Hope to ride out the insanity of 'carbon zero' (= all life death) and avoid driving near those explosive electricity cars (have the insurance companies prices led to a slump in more sales yet?). Let e know the seat belt tongue type and if in the 95% type, I'll send you a SHOFT to add to the comfort. By the way I went to see Volvo a while back about the safety improvements of SHOFT and they said "if it was that good we'd have invented it already"... dear dear... :-)

I've been looking forward to reading more about the Volvo, after following the story on Geoff's channel. It is good to see you back to true bangernomics and I hope it serves you well. Looks like the right car for this time of year, at least.

It is huge David, Viking Longship huge, but the seats are spectacular even after almost 200K miles. Swallows up people and stuff for fun really. I'll keep it going for a bit!

Thanks Graham, always good to hear from you, really oddly I put the SHOFT in the car yesterday, so you must have seen me do it. Very odd attitude by Volvo but then they have nothing to prove I Suppose. the 6 cylinder BMW engine is astoundingly reliable, smooth and makes what is the best real world car with plenty of style. Appreciate you reading this.

The V70 is superbly comfortable and practical. The only small jiggle is the overly large turning circle. Still, at their current price point, who cares?

Looks like the perfect car to hunker down in for the winter, James! And what is it about those old Volvo seats that make them so bloody comfy? If I ever get round to opening the second-hand record shop that torments my dreams, then the V70 would surely be the ideal car for cruising around, swallowing up preloved vinyl collections. I feel that’s how it would likely want to spend its Bangernomical days too… No ABBA though.
